Hugh graduated from University of Glasgow in 1988.He under took house jobs in Inverclyde and Lanarkshire. He completed vocational training in Larkhall and Stonehouse and from there moved to general practice in Ayrshire in 1993.Hugh works in a deprived rural practice in Dalmellington ,one of the deep end practices ,the most 100 deprived practices in Scotland. He has been involved as Primary Care Cancer lead in Ayrshire and Arran for many years and has been chair of Scottish Primary Care Cancer group since 2016. He has recently been involved as vice chair of review of national cancer referral guidelines and has been a strong voice in encouraging more universal access to imaging across Scotland. He also chairs the Local Medical committee and sits on the Scottish GeneraLl Practitioners committee. He stays in Alloway and has interests in football and golf. He sits on the Board of the Ayrshire Hospice.
