David grew up in Edinburgh, studied in Glasgow, and trained in the West of Scotland. In 2023 David was diagnosed with a Grade 2 astrocytoma brain tumour. He has had surgery and chemoradiotherapy for this. He remains prone to seizures and like many brain tumour patients, each scan brings with it the anxiety that the tumour is progressing. He is grateful for all the treatment he has had, which remains highly specialised and kind.
Prior to this David was a Portfolio GP, including on the Isle of Arran for 9 years, and subsequently in East Lothian and the Scottish Borders. He continues to hold honorary roles with the Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh, and the RNLI. He has continued aspects of professional mentoring and peer review. He lives in East Lothian with his wife and young daughter. He is delighted to be chairing today’s patient panel.
